Our encounter with people and environment can be seen as our outer journey through life. There is another journey, however, that we may take, which is infinitely more mysterious - the inner journey into ourselves.
Colin Mortlock, already well known for his previous book, The Adventure Alternative, has spent a lifetime in outdoor education and has an international reputation in this field. In his own adventures he has faced the challenge of some of the world''s most testing environments. These experiences have led him to believe that the outdoors can offer something more profound than just the attraction of excitement and danger - something that is beyond adventure.
In this book he describes some of his outer journeys and reflects on the corresponding inner journeys that followed. He contemplates the potential of Nature to reveal profound truths about the self and individual''s relationship to others and to place. From this base he builts a personal framework of values for living which may be of wide-ranging signigicance.
