Contrasts and Soultions in the Caucasus explores the tumultuous history of the Caucasus and provides an in-depth insight into the complex problems of the region today. Special attention is given to the geopolitical importance of the region, the post-Soviet consequences for the region today, and the relation of the Caucasus region to the Russioan Federation.
The present plight and future aspirations of Abkhazia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Crimea, Nagorno-Karabakh and Chechenia are examined in detail. The turkish role in the Caucasian conflicts is also addressed by several contributors. Other questions covered include nationalism and ethno-national conflicts, the negative stereo-typing of nations and people, and the importance of oil for the future of the Caspian Basin.
