Etruria and Central Italy 450-30 B.C.

The Glyptoteks collection of works from Etruria and the surrounding region of Central Italy includes many fine pieces from the Classical and Hellenistic ages. Although this period was marked by the increasing influence of Rome in the area, and the diminishing independence of the original population, the material remains attest to a living artistic tradition.

The Glyptoteks collection of cinerary urns and sarcophagi is unique, but there are also painted vases, bronzes and sculpture in stone. Of particular interest is a group of votive terracottas, which were set up in sanctuaries in gratitude to the gods.
