When you move along the glass corridor that connects the first galleries of the Louisiana Museum and pass the Giacometti Room, you come to the small hall that was inaugurated in 2007 as a permanent Asger Jorn gallery. Jorn was one of Denmark's most influential artists in the twentieth century. With deep roots in Nordic culture, and at the same time with a horizon and connections far beyond the borders of the country, with a circle of acquaintances including artists, philosophers, authors, scientists, politicians and all conceivable kinds of freethinkers, Jorn was one of the leading lights of the CoBrA group and the Situationist International. In this book, with her starting point in the Louisiana's permanent representation of Asger Jorn, which includes a major donation from the Dresing Foundation, the art historian Helle Brøns offers new thoughts on an understanding of Jorn's oeuvre and international significance. The intense, spontaneous Expressionist is compared with the ironic, acute and always reflective Situationist; the European focus with the obvious but far from simple parallels in America. Helle Brøns, born in 1973, is a Master of Art History from Aarhus University.
