The Nordic Model of Welfare

Den nordiske model er blevet et velkendt begreb inden for international velfærdsstatsforskning og i den politiske debat. Men hvor præcist er dette begreb, og i hvor høj grad passer de fem nordiske lande ind i dette overordnede mønster? I denne bog efterforsker en gruppe nordiske historikere velfærdsstatens historiske oprindelse og udvikling i de fem nordiske lande. Bogens mål er at modificere modelbegrebet ved at lægge vægt på både de fælles træk og variationerne mellem dem. Som arbejdshypotese betragter forfatterne Norden som en samlet model med fem undtagelser. Artiklerne i denne bog er alle skrevet af historikere, der har arbejdet inden for rammen af et fællesnordisk forskningsprojekt med titlen The Nordic Welfare-Model - a Historical reappraisal.

In international welfare state scholarship and political discourse the Nordic Model has become a standard concept. But how precise is the concept and to what extent do the five Nordic countries fit into this overall pattern? In this book a group of Nordic historians trace the historical origins and developments of welfare in the five Nordic countries. The aim of this book is to modify the standard concept by emphasizing both the common features and the variations between them. As a work hypothesis the authors regard ´Norden´ as a model with five exceptions.
The articles in this book are all written by historians who have worked within the framework of a Nordic research project operating under the title The Nordic Welfare-Model - a Historical reappraisal.
