It pictures a part of the world and the universe. It is an expression of how we perceive our reality, both on a personal and on an universal level.
It shows the different levels of reality - the different experiences of consciousness.
It is a common understanding that the center of the mandala is a heavenly gate that is divinely protected from all evil.
Through this heavenly gate it is said that one can enter The Source of All Things.
